U.S. Bank’s Need
U.S. Bank, the fifth largest commercial bank in the United States, operates more than 3,000 banking offices and over 5,000 ATMs, and provides a comprehensive line of products and services to consumers, businesses, and institutions. In 2012, U.S. Bank was preparing to launch a new software tool to employees nationwide that would consolidate the functions of several tools into just one. To support this launch, the company developed a comprehensive blended learning solution, which included several e-learning courses. Near the end of the development process, however, U.S. Bank realized that they did not have enough internal resources to finish on time. In addition, the courses had been crafted by various designers and therefore didn’t have a consistent style. The company needed to complete the e-learning in time for the tool’s launch and they knew that high-quality, unified training would help employees embrace this new tool rather than feel overwhelmed by the changes. They were also looking for a way to introduce the e-learning and software tool to employees in a motivating way.
The ABR Solution
The new software tool’s launch date was rapidly approaching, so ABR jumped in to help U.S. Bank meet their deadline. Initially ABR’s graphical assistance was only going to include producing a graphics library; but after a needs analysis, ABR and U.S. Bank agreed that the solution should also include a comprehensive style guide. Therefore, ABR collaborated with U.S. Bank designers to develop a bank of reusable graphic assets and a style guide outlining important standards to be followed across the courses.
ABR also designed and developed a short Flash animation to insert at the beginning of U.S. Bank’s first e-learning course. The purpose of this animation was to create awareness about the new software tool and to serve as an exciting and engaging introduction to the training for employees. From start to finish, ABR had approximately three weeks to complete the graphics library, style guide, and custom Flash animation. They not only met this timeframe, but U.S. Bank was thrilled with the quality of ABR’s overall solution.
How ABR Helped U.S. Bank
U.S. Bank needed a quick turnaround, and ABR delivered. Although ABR had not been involved with developing the e-learning courses, the team was able to dive in, interpret the content, and elevate the overall look and feel of the training by creating and implementing an attractive and more uniform style across the courses. In addition, ABR provided an innovative way to introduce the e-learning to U.S. Bank employees. U.S. Bank knew that the new software tool was a major shift for employees, and they felt that ABR’s intro animation was a creative way of putting employees’ minds at ease, as well as an inspiring introduction to the e-learning.
